General introduction

Stale content is a major reason why visitors do not return to a website. They have already seen everything the site has to offer and they are not expecting any change. This is a great reason why you should keep your website up to date. For the majority of visitors, your website is the first impression they get of your company, therefore it is extremely important to make it fresh, new and interesting whenever possible. A ContentForces Content Editor component has been developed to help your company in changing the content of a website easily and quickly. The Content Editor is an integrated website component which allows content editing (text & images) on the website. Edited content can be previewed before publishing and later viewed online after publishing. It is a tool used for editing parts of the website covered by the Content Editor’s editorial field. The Content Editor works as WYSIWYG (What You See Is What You Get) editor. This means that the content displayed during modification appears very similar to the final output (preview mode). Moreover, the Content Editor allows you to easily create and edit image maps by an image map editor. Thanks to this functionality, your website visitor will be able to move his mouse over the mapped image (a single image with clickable areas), click on it and be automatically redirected to the appropriate subpage/website. This fully-featured component is especially required by non-technical users with no prior HTML knowledge. The Content Editor component is easy to use. It has a user friendly interface and even users without any extensive experience can perform all the actions possible with this component. Once the website is implemented the client can modify his own content while advanced users can use more features of the Content Editor component which are available.

Website visitor perspective

  • Website visitors can view text and images displayed on a website’s pages. The content they are viewing had been placed on those pages by using the Content Editor. There is no real interaction with the component itself. The lower-center section of a web page is mostly the area that is edited via the Content Editor. This is the area taken up by the Content Editor’s editorial.
  • Image map:The website visitor encounters an image map on your website. The visitor selects a hotspot and activates the assigned link. The sensitive clickable image responds to the region of the image that the website visitor clicks on, and automatically redirects him to the assigned web address.

Website manager perspective

  • The website manager logs into the ContentForces CCMS and goes to the 'Publications>Website' section. He chooses the instance and selects an item (page) from the taxonomy tree.
  • Afterwards, on the detail page, he clicks the 'Preview' button. The preview page is displayed with the editable content in an orange frame.
  • He clicks on it and the Action Selector appears (Balloon).
  • Then, he selects the 'Edit' button and the Content Editor is ready to use.
  • The website manager can add content, change existing content, change the content template on existing content.
  • Above the predefined area, there is an intuitive Toolbar. There, he can find all needed buttons: Bold, Italic, Underline, New page, Left, Center, or Right Alignment/Justify, Cut, Copy, Paste, Paste as plain text, Select All, Style with Dropdown, Insert Special Character, Insert/Remove Numbered List, Insert/Remove Bulleted List, CFTemplate, CFMediaBasket, DFInsertHyperlink, CFSave, CFClose and Toolbar with Dropdown (in case the website manager acquires HTML skills he has the possibility to edit the HTML code directly).
  • Text can be entered or copy and pasted into the Content Editor
  • Edit an HTML source responsible for the text layout
  • By selecting previously defined styles (integration phase) he can define the appearance of a page
  • Text can be added as a hyperlink
  • Internal and external links can be added
  • The manager can select where the link should open: in a new or the same window, the name (or picture in case of picture link) of the link
  • Upload images that will be inserted to a page using the Content Editor
  • By using the Content Editor the user can insert an uploaded image
  • Image mapping: Before the website manager can start mapping, he needs to prepare: a gif or jpg image (upload via ContentForces Media Basket), a plan of what shapes you want to divide your image into and finally, a list of URLs he wants each shape to map to.
  • The website manager needs to select the page he wants to add the mapped image to and open the Content Editor. He chooses the image (standard .jpg and .gif images) that will be used to create a map, by clicking 'Insert/Edit Image' button. The image will appear in the editing area.
  • Next, the manager clicks on the 'Insert/Edit Image Map' button. Image Map Editor will open in a new window. The manager types the image map name and chooses the desired shape (rectangle, circle or polygon). He uses the mouse to create the areas on the image which will be assigned to an information label such as numbers, alt text, href, title, coords. Selecting the area of the graphic that will be turned into a link will fill the shape with a transparent color and be surrounded by a bounding box with resizable control handles. Next, the website manager defines the type of display for the results of mapping (same/new window) and labelling (label with numbers, alt text, href, title, or coords). He can continue making selections on the image and specifying URLs, alt texts and the display type for each clickable region of the image map. Clicking 'ok' will close the Image Map Editor.
  • In the Content Editor, the manager can continue editing the article and finally save the results by clicking the 'Save' button.
  • The image map can always be modified or removed via Image Map Editor.
